I've started playing my second Diety game (about which I asked a question a few days ago--thanks to those who responded); and I am playing on a large pangea map with eight AI opponents. I'm playing as Japan.

Questions:
Does reducing the number of AI civs help? I did it to help me expand early on, but on another thread someone said it hurt.

Is pangea harder than continents or archipelago?

Help would be appreciated.

The thing I've noticed so far about Diety is that it requires a lot of patience.

It all depends. if you play 16 civ on a tiny map, the Ai cannot expand because there is no room - so you end up with as many cities as them quickly.

On the other hand, superior planning and a thought-through war may give you an edge when there's more free land.

You cannot out-expand the AI on Deity - so in my experience, the tighter the better!

Atypically, a larger map makes it easier for the human, and fewer players make i easier for the human. Combine them, and it should be easier. Why? Because less AI-AI tech whoring. On a large map or higher with 16 Civs, give up hope of researching your way anywhere near parity with the AI...
