Official European release dates

The official release of Civilization 4 in Europe is between October 28th and November 4th.

Holland and Belgium are scheduled for November 3rd.

I received this information from the official Take2 office in the Netherlands.

On the press release announcing the game went gold, there were two email addresses. I decided to send and email. It went all through Take2 sales organization, see transcript below. Pretty funny they think I am some kind of vip, lol.

Congratulation on the gold status of Civilization IV!

Together with the community we are very eager to get our copy of the game as soon as possible. We know the US release is Oct 25th, but I live in the Netherlands. I was looking at the option to order from the UK, but I am not sure if it is worth it as the release dates of other countries are not known.

Can you please tell me the official release dates for the Netherlands, UK (and other European countries)?

I hope you have a moment to answer this question. I will post the information on the various community forums to help out other eager Civ fans.

Interesting. Since several sites here mention the 28th I'm hoping we will be the ones getting it among the first in Europe. :)
 
Does this mean there IS NOT a general european release date? So we'll all get it at different times?
 
I guess so. Each market might have it's own weekday for game releases.

Maybe:
Fridays for UK (28th Oct)
Thursdays for NL (3rd Nov)
 
But I made a phone call to play.com and ask them when it will be shipped and delivered.

They claimed I would get it, in the Netherlands, according to their release date (28th Oct), 6 days before NL release. If Play can pull that off I will be forever grateful!
 
Thanks for that... i'm just hoping that it comes out on the 28th for UK. I see no reason why we should be hampered by the rest of Europe in getting the game, seeing as we need no translation as we already speak English.
 
Waitwaitwaitwaitwait! Considering that the UK-version is usually the one that's sold in Scandinavia and Finland. Is it possible that we're getting the game in 28th as well?

We don't even know if it IS coming out on 28th. UK retailers say it is, but i'm not so certain now. Argh, how annoying.
 
First of all, congrats to remconius for getting an answer from so high up on the 2K games foodchain :goodjob:. Would you be able to find out too whether the release in Europe will be on CD-ROM or on DVD only ?

On a related note, I checked out the Dutch dynabyte website (which is the store from which I preordered) and expected release date there is Nov 2 (delayed from earlier Oct 28 listing), which I take to mean that they'll have it on sale the next day too. That would fit with the 2K games reply that remconius got. They're still showing the placeholder CD-ROM box art.
 
Hmmm would be good if Play.com can make the 28th. They've a returning customer in me for sure then. First time I ordered with them, eager to see how it will go.

Having to wait while the US is playing will be agony :)

Great news. And applause for Remconius :D

By the way, Janos, there are quite a lot of countries in Europe that do not get localized/translated versions of games and movies. To me, Civ in Dutch would seem quite fake, to be honest.

I pre-ordered with Dynabyte too, and I am counting on Nov. 3. :)
 
Aaargh!! I'm getting really confused now!

I'm in Germany, so I preordered from CD WoW - that supplier was recommended on a thread here.

Their site says shipping Oct 28... it also shows as English version only (which is fine by me, in fact I'd prefer it over a German version) - but the box art shows DVD, not CD-Rom!

So what are they selling here? Could this be the UK version then?

I'm crying in my beer (actually I prefer wine :D ) at the thought of you lucky Americans playing for 3 or 4 days before I get my claws on my copy! :mad:
 
My local game supplier here in Vienna states the 28th for the US version and the 4th for the German one. The main thing is that I can get it on 28th or 29th because 1st and 2nd Nov. are holidays here, and I will take the 31st of Oct. off. That would mean 4-5 days civ4 session :cool:

Same here - though only Nov 1st is a holiday here. You can bet I'll be hanging out the window waiting for the postman on Sat the 29th :lol:
