Often Cannot Type in Textbox

Whenever there's a dialog box with a textbox, like multiplayer chat or naming a new settlement or saving a game, I cannot type anything in the textbox. If I cancel the dialog box, return to the map and select/deselect a unit and then return to the dialog box, I can then usually type. This happens constantly.

In single player, it's an annoyance. In multiplayer, it's critical! One time I couldn't type anything for several minutes, and the other players were wondering why I wasn't responding to them.

Thanks for any guidance.

I have had this problem too.

It seems to happen for me most often when trying to re-name a save game. I click save game, highlight the default name and start typing... but the words don't appear and if I type any keys that are hot keys the game starts responding behind the window! (like "F" for instance - will make a unit I have selected fortify even though I am in the process of saving!!!!)

The exact same thing happens to me too...

I thought maybe it was just a Windows X64 problem, but I guess not. Y'all using Windows XP?

Patch v1.09 did not fix the problem. :(

Hi, I've been reading these forums since Civ IV came out. Been thinking to register for a while now and finally made it in.

I don't know if it's that easy, but I noticed that typing won't work as long as the mouse arrow is outside the dialogue field (not the box, but the actual field that you type in).

If that's any help -- good!
If not -- sorry for being a smartass in my first post.

Cheers

I have this problem too, going to try Banderas' suggestion later. Though I did notice you can fix it easier than what ThorGoLucky was doing by simply clicking on some terrain then clicking in the textfield again, but maybe its actually because doing that puts the mouse in the textfield that it works. Either way, I hope they fix this, its dreadfully annoying
