Oh I just realized what potential this forum had. So here come the questions that have been bugging me for a long time-->

1. I have an italian lap top... so the Keyboard and the OS is in italian. CAn I change this somehow (I know I can change the keyboard... but I'll have to plug in another keyboard... but the only outlets I have, I believe, are USB outlets which leads me to my second quesion)

2. I have them touch pads. I bought a nice mouse toplug in, but I can't find anywhere to plug it in. Are there actual computers with only USB plugs? How can I remedy this?

3. I hate windows media player. So my third question is this: when I copy a CD i do so with WMP (case it's the easiest, haven't tried it any other way) but then the songs copied come in WMP format which can't be played in Winamp... So I have to use WMP. Can I do it any other way, so that can use Winamp... or is there a better program out there for free for playing songlists. If I have to use WMP (which I have to now) Some songs come with predetermined names, names of composers, etc. Even when I change these they change back... How can I fix this? I also have made a play list for WMP but the last CD I copied (one of a double CD pack) I cant copy onto the list. The files are on my computer and I can play them with WMP but I can't copy them onto the list (the songs of the other CD in that double pack I could transfer onto the list easily).

4. I live in a corridor. MY neibor doesn't have interenet configured. Everyone has the same IP in this corridor (I've checked) but how can I find out what her Subnet mask, standard gateway, and DNS are? (If I use mine, she gets internet.. but then I don't so that's a no go).

I think I had other questions, but I can't remember them. If anone can help me, thank you! that would be great! :goodjob:

1) just buy a USB keyboard
2) lots of laptops only have USB. sounds like either a serial or PS/2 mouse. They make a USB adapter. Just buy one for about $7 USD
3) can't answer, I don't rip music
4) It is not possible to have the same IP address (well it is but it would not work). for that info go to Start>Run, type "cmd" to get to a DOS prompt. then type "ipconfig /all"

thanx... we do have the same IP (I checked at whatismyip.com), I live in a corridor with ten people... We all share the same IP.

as for riping music, I don't either (for past 3 years anyhow). I do wish to copy music from my CDs to my laptop to be able to listen to them (without the hassle of looking up every CD, or bringing every CD with me when I take my lap top away from home.

3)Try iTunes. Similar to WMP, made by Apple, and not too large in size.
If you have a constant internet connection (cable or dsl), the iTunes application connects to a database to fetch the correct info of your song too (much like WMP)

So that should cover your needs I hope

4) From the outside, you all have the same IP if you are connected through a router or proxy or whatever. Thing is, that ipconfig is the quickest way for everyone to find their local ip.

open dos prompt, type ipconfig, and note the difference between the gateway numbers and the ip address. IP is yours, gateway is the router. Should solve it.

1. Yes. Windows allows you to change the language of a keyboard internally you do not need a new keyboard for this, however, stickers to tell you were the letter are may be useful. Or you can buy a USB keyboard.

2. Get a USB mouse. It's the only way.

What vertion of windows do you have?

Actually you are sharing the same gateway. That is why the webpage says that. If you go to DOS and use ipconfig I will guarantee that you will have different IP addresses. The difference is these 10 computers have different private and public IP addresses. www.whatsmyip.com can only see the public address. I would also bet (though this is not a guarantee) that your private address (what you see in DOS) begins with 192.168.x.x
