How do I find oil? I don't see it when I scan over my territory, like any other strategic resource. Am I going to have to go on a tile by tile search? Need oil for a squadron of bombers. Persia is going down!

 :nuke: :ar15: :sniper:

Dou you know Refining? If so, F2 should tell you if you have any. Or try using control-shift-m and then looking over the map. Or open the foreign advisor sceen and see if anyone else has it for trade.

Note that they need refining, too. You might want to gift it to the weakest civ with oil, so that you can buy it for cheap and make a good trade partner.

Hmm, it does. I never read the manual good enough :(. Anyhow, always try to have some cities in the arctic and desert. Oil appears in abundance there, I usally have 3 sources as soon as I discover Refining.

if you have trouble finding resources you can use a tile set which illustrates them with smiley faces. I'm not sure which tile set it is, but i've seen in the forums.

In my experience, the manual is rather useless. Anything useful I learned about the game I picked up by trail and error or by reading the great articles on this site.

and you can use cntr-shift-n to choose what things to display when you use cntr-shift-m

Thanks for the 2 tips :). I agree that you learn more from communities then from reading a manual but I think this are standard hotkeys.

This Is Why You Build Cities On Desert And Tundra In Ancient Times!!!!

Many resources may not appear within your kingdom! I've had to trade for rubber for the entire duration of my current game, even signing MPP's and RoP's to help and protect my sole source of rubber! As you know, modern military units are impossible without this resource, so it is imperative that I keep that supply line open and safe.

(I've even played a game on a regular map that oil appeared in ONE place! The wars fought for that tile were awesome!)

Of course, yet another reason to love Civ! Strategy strategy strategy - no two games are alike!
