Hi,

I know this is a very old problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I downloaded the latest directx file and installed fine. I tried to run the game, but it couldn't find the cd, that was in there. I was trying to delete all of civ4 because it said reinstall before, but it didn't let me. I know I am really new and ignorant about getting help about these things. Does anyone have a fix? :)

What version of directx did you install? CIV requires DirectX 9. It won't recognize later versions. What OS are you using? Do you have an administrator account or only a user account? (If you are the only user, you have an administrator account by default.)

I will check on it. I think OS means operating system, but are you asking if I run with and i3 intel. I am really bad at these things. :) I was given the disk a long time ago, and I am the only one who plays it. I haven't ever done multiplayer.

It says it is version 9.29.1974. I still don't know why it won't recognize the disc.

OS means operating system. Are you running Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or something else? The solution to your problem may vary depending on which OS you have on your computer.

The question was not whether more than one person uses the disc. It was are you the only person using the computer? If you are then you are running an administrator account. If you are not, then are you running an administrator account or a plain user account? It makes a difference which account type you have as far as what you can do to fix the problem.

Assuming that your version stated in your post is for DirectX, then that would be DirectX 9.

Okay. Thanks a lot for your help. I am the administrator I guess and I run with Windows 8. So what is the next step? I know you deal with a lot of naive computer users like me. Thanks for you patience.

I am sorry but I have never used Windows 8, so I don't have a definitive answer. However, in Windows 7 this sort of problem can sometimes be solved by giving the program administrative privileges. I don't know if this can be done this way in Windows 8 or not but it is worth a try. Right click on the game's exe file. You will see a list of options (at least in Windows 7 you do, I hope it is also that way in Windows 8). One of the options is to give the program administrative privileges. I don't know what the precise wording will be in Windows 8 but it will include the word "administrative" or "administrator". Click on that and then try to run the game. If this does not work, you will have to wait for someone familiar with Windows 8 to give you advice here.

The only thing I can find was run as administrator, and that didn't work either. Thanks anyway.

I figured it our now, but when I tried to load a mod it didn't want to work. I will look for more help if I can't figure it out.
