What kind of old computer could I get that would let me play Civ1 DOS up to speed and with all the music?

I have a Dell Inspiron (laptop) 8200 with ME. Civ1 DOS will not even play.

I have a Dell desktop with Win 98 and Turtle Beach sound card and good graphics. Civ1 DOS plays, but if I select Sound Blaster I get sloooowww playing and sloooowww music. If I select IBM speakers, it plays fast but no music.

So what are all of you using to play Civ1 DOS on?

I don't have room for another desktop, but I would be interested in getting an older model laptop (inexpensively hopefully) that would play Civ1 DOS in all its glory.

So what should I look for and where?

sorry stwils. I used to play on an AST Ascentia 9000 or something which was a 486 laptop. The game ran beautifully but I always play without the music because it was too darned loud so I can't make a recommendation.

Currently, for instance, I play with the IBM sounds option but I've disconnected my PC speaker from the motherboard so I don't actually hear anything :p

No, Dosbox is cool, but the dos emulation still is far from perfect.
"No sound" is maybe the best option.
So you just need a 486 with a color VGA display and DOS installed.
But beware, it's much more confortable to play on a desktop, except if you're a mouse player.
