I've been fairly silent on these boards, but after the next HoF update, I'll be one game away from being a Quartermaster.
The only trouble is that I have to win a game on Diety level or above.

I'm not the greatest player, but I do know a bit about micromanagement- I just can't seem to gain enough territory to win on the higher levels. It might be that I am a terrible warmonger.

I'd like to win either a culture or spaceship victory on Diety of Demi-God on either a Small or Standard map.
Would you guys mind sharing some starting tactics/ war plans, etc.?

There are countless options on how to go about either victory condition, but if you are uncomfortable on deity and demi you might want to play an archipelago map to lessen the AI advantage over you. The Byzantines on an arch map would allow you to go for 20K or space more easily than "normal."

I agree with Killercane. An achipelago map with 80% water. Consider the max (or close to it) for # of AIs. If an AI starts on your island then roll up another start. The idea is to get some of the AIs in competition with each other while you can fill up your island.

If you go for 20K then you need lots of production near your starting location but not a lot elsewhere. 20K can be tough at the high levels as you are in competition for the wodners. You should definately consider doing this in a 2nd city but you don't want to go far. Build a single warrior for scouting and then a settler from your capitol followed by a few warriors and workers. Warriors for MP and scouting and workers to pump up the size of your 20K city.

Your 20K city should build a temple while researching BW. Then get started on the Collosus. You will also need Masonry soon so you have the Palace to fall back to when you lose a wonder race.

If you are going for anything other than 20K then top priority is filling your island with cities while self-researching towards map making so you can also settle some other small islands. Try to have a galley pre-build or two ready the turn you discover MM (or curragh upgrades if playing C3C) and be able to soon load up a settler & escort for each.

If you are going for space then your will want to go Conquest first. Consider the Great Library capture by researching to Cavalry. You will need to knock down the AI down to keep them from eventually becoming too dominant for you to overcome.

Thanks. The 20k is really what I want to go after.
I suppose there's no new advice here, I just need to be patient and find a good map.

If you're playing a small map at a high level with say 3 opponents, would not Continents be a better choice?.........and then if you get a continent with only you and a continent with 2 or 3 AI's, wouldn't that be more ideal? :)

(Of course if you played a Tiny map with 2 opponents using Continents, it would be pretty easy to have your "own continent" with the 2 AI on another one!)

Finally found a good small map with my own decently-sized island. Unless I want to stay up all night I doubt I'll finish in time for the next update. Shucks.

My one and only game in the HoF was an all nighter. I think I got about an hour and a half of sleep or something before having to go to school. So just go for it.

Go to sleep!;) The HoF would still be here when you wake up. If you don't make it this month, there is always going to be next month.

But what about that strange mix of euphoria and sleepiness that you get from finishing a marathon session in the middle of the night?
