Online Multiplayer broken =/

Ok, so I purchased Civ4 when it first came out and could play online just fine. About 6 months ago, I attempted to play online again. I entered my user name, and password, and pressed "Login"...nothing happened. I tried creating a new account. Entered all the information and pressed Ok, nothing happened. The Take2 support is no help at all and im really frustrated by the whole problem. I've reinstalled windows, updated ALL the drivers. Warlords also has the same problem.

Here are my specs:

Asus motherboard with VIA KT600 chipset (sorry lost the packaging for the MB so dont know the specifics)
AMD Sempron 2800+ overclocked, runs at 2.4ghz
2gb mushkin ram
ATI Radeon 9600XT 256mb
SoundMax Cadenza integrated sound
Network card is VIA Rhine ll fast ethernet adapter

Just using windows firewall (I check add civ4 to the exception list), although I have tried it with zone alarm

AntiVir for antivirus, have tried norton and bitdefender

Am having the same problem. I have varified all drivers are up to date, game is listed in my firewall. On a side note I do play other games on-line and this is the only one I have a problem with.

This happens if you try to log in with the wrong password, or if you try to register a username that is already registered

In this instance, I don't believe that is the case, as I am using the correct user name and password. I have also logged in to Game Spy and used it to launch Civilization IV and have the same result.

Yea, Ive logged into game spy also. The take 2 tech support is completely useless, been months now and they haven't been able to help. /sigh.
Not sure what to try next.

When you log into gamespy using that usename.. does the username look like:
username-tk ?

Civ4 adds '-tk' at the end of the username when the user is created inside the game.. and also adds it to the username whenever you try to log in...

so if you try to log in as user , then civ4 will try to log in as the user-tk
if you cant find that username when logging in to the gamespy webpages, then the username you try to log in as dont exist

About four weeks after emailing Take2 Tech support with my problem, I recieved an email today telling me to update to the latest patch. Trying it now, but I guess i need a new version of direct X.
