Found a demo on steam. It's interesting, but slow. Considering prices aren't exactly favourable yet, I think I'll stick with 3 and 4. Four I found put too much emphasis on peaceful play.

You should bear in mind that (As far as I know) The demo does not contain any of the patches or DLC, both of which have been introduced and make the game CONSIDERABLY more playable, the patches particularly. To really try it, you'd need to buy it - but if you're on the fence then wait until a sale.

I'm not going to make a huge case for it as it's all been said previously. Personally I enjoy the game, but find I get bored quickly if I just try and win. I have to make my games interesting/different such as using teams or almost roleplaying a Civ. I imagine mods would help but I haven't tried them yet.
