I don't know if this is the right forum to be in for suggestions, but here goes anyways.

One of my biggest frustrations is finally getting to that wonderful, longed for strategic resource, and the AI builds a city which has land that covers my roads.

I feel a great addition to the game would be to be able to buy just squares of land. Yes, I am sure you would not be able to get them cheap, but I think it would be a good addition.

Just a thought.

Question: I know it has been asked and posted before, but I can't recall the answer. Is there a shortcut keyboard command which allows you to see the other opponents in the foreign advisor screen?

Or maybe by building Fortresses (Castles) you could claim empty territory (obviously the fort would have to be garrisoned)?

If the AI doesn't like the extra territory your claiming it can always try and take it from you.

There should be some diplomatic method of telling the AI "hands off, this patch of mud is mine"

There is a very good way to do so: Build a city with that square in its borders. Voila, you have managed to "buy" 9 squares (to begin with) by spending a settler.

Yeah. Other than that.

are you referring to shift-rt. click on one of the faces?? which lets you select more than the 7 opponents??

I think it would be nice if you could contact another civ and buy land from it. The land would still be in their borders but there could be some kind of marking on the land. In the "real world" this would be something like this: "I see you have a plot of land with extra iron on it. Since you have other sources of iron, would you be so kind as to sell us that square with the iron for $$$$?"

Of course, if no one has settled on the land yet that you have the right to claim it as yours, who are you going to buy it from anyway if no one owns it?

Isn't that essentially what happens when trade for a resource from another civ though? You pay $ or tech or resources, and they let you have access to their Iron.

You're right :enlighten I missed that part of his post, whoops! We need a smiley that smacks its own head, doh!

What I mean is after you buy the land should be yours forever and you could do whatever you want to it unless the civ you bought it from declares war on you as the people working on the land would probably come running home if they knew they were in enemy territory would they not?
This would of course require a very friendly civ and lots of $$$$.
