Most of us have heard of the one and five city challenges (OCC & 5CC). But what are some of the other variations and "house" rules people play.

I am currently playing a variation where I can only win a diplomatic win but am not allowed to build the UN.

I have also played variants where I had to automate my workers and accept my science advisor's choice of research.

Here is a war academy article detailing a few variants:

You should also check out the Succession Game forum as most of those games play with some kind of variant.

FRFR - Never build roads, irrigation, mines, etc. No using improved tiles either. Win by domination. Foresting and chopping is okay.

While I already mentioned it in another thread, I have a variation that I have not seen discussed extensively. I think of it as WATB (We Are The Barbarians), but I think others know it as a 0CB (zero Cities Built). The idea is that the human player gets a few extra offensive units (archers or even horses) at the start, but cannot make settlers, ever. To acquire cities, he must capture them. One could play this in almost the same way as a 1CB - with no extra units at the start, but with one settler (thereby eliminating the need for using the editor).
