Nothing is more annoying then another civ finding a single spot of free territory right in the center of your empire and building a "soon to be culturally conquered" city. It destroys the beautiful image you see for your future, NON-OVERLAPING, size 24+ megatropolises. The short answer is to go to war and raze the doomed city, w/ the normal long term consequences.

My question is, has anyone found a different way to get rid of these cities? It would be an easy solution to culture take it and disband it, (in CIV games past, you could always build a settler in a size one city to disband it) but I've noticed that is no longer an option (unless I'm missing something).

Can you starve away a city of size one? If so, what are the consequences.....

Try to build a worker to get rid of a size 1 city and a settler to get rid of a size 2 city. I've personally never tried it but my room mate says he's gotten rid of size 2 cities by building settlers.

You can't starve away a city into nothingness, but you can starve it down to 1 or 2. Then, *before* you build the settler in that city, make sure that it is either starving or not growing. When the settler is created, you will then get the option asking if you want to disband the city. If the city is actually growing, you will get the settler without the option...which is a nice little feature to be aware of when you want to grow like crazy in the beginning of the game...

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.... I've noticed that the building of a settler will stop until the city is large enough, IF the city is growing. The disbandment of the city if it is small and not growing when building a settler will be quite useful....
