So far I haven't read about anyone else having this problem. I've tried multiple times to download the 1.61 patch, but it freezes everytime I try and at different points during the download. It's never gotten above 60% downloaded. Any suggestions?

Still no success. I turned off my firewall, but that didn't help any either. I got an error message this time saying internet explorer can't download the file.......connection to server will reset. That's not exactly what it said, but it's close. I might try to reinstall the game. I don't know what else to try. It does seem to be an internet explorer problem though.

Try manually downloading the patch from http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/downloads.htm
Save the patch .exe file to your system, and then try running it.
If you can't manually download the patch, then you probably have some kind of security or network problem. You shouldn't have to reinstall the game.
