How is the patch.
For all of us who won't get to play it until exactly 3:30 or after please post and tell us if it is worth the Hype.:crazyeyes

Thanks

Well I'm at work 'till 5, so I won't be able to play until I get home.

But I think everyone will be playing instead of posting their comments here.

The server must be too bogged down, because I keep getting a "Cannot find server or DNS Error" when trying to reach civ3.com. I figured that'd happen...

:(

Me too!

And I have my civ testing computer here at work... ARRRGGG

As I reported at Apolyton, I can discern zero difference in the corruption levels. I have a large Chinese democracy. I had notes of the corruption pre and post patch.

No change.

Someone reported that communism is fixed, however.

I had it crash on me. Once.

I opened a save game to make sure I had the patch right. I scrolled around a little bit, then I went into the civpedia and checked the stats of the privateers. I exited the civpedia, and a few seconds later, I got a fatal crash.

I can't reproduce it, though, so I'm hoping it was just a fluke.

Just in case, I'm starting a new game to play. If it's just a problem with pre-patch savegames, I probably won't ever see it again. :)

Ditto -- pre-patch and post-patch corruption are identical. No discernible difference -- I have a huge map, tons of cities, corruption/waste everywhere... comparing the post-patch to my notes (after a turn), and the corruption DID NOT CHANGE.

Query to Firaxis???

It could be that corruption would be fixed in new games?

Just curious.

I'm patchless, so I can't say.

(Shield bonus from clearing forest can only be received once per game? :P)

Check cities with corruption fighting buildings.

I built a courthouse and it raised my production from 2 to 5 shields.

Note: this is no claim that this is different then before, I just never noted courthouses having much of an effect before.

To the suggestion to check cities with corruption-fighting buildings: I'm using a saved game (perhaps new games are the only ones that will work with the patch's "reduced corruption" feature) that has many, many cities and ALL of them have courthouses and have had for a long time.

And despite all that, the corruption pre-patch is identical to the corruption post-patch.

i've had it crash on me twice now. i'm currently uninstalling the game, backing up my saves to a different directory, and completely installing from scratch. we'll see if this helps...

I've seen reports on Apolyton that corruption is reduced, which leads me to wonder if custom rules mods and/or existing savegames aren't "getting" the new corruption rules. When you save a game, at least some of the game rules are saved in with that game (some aren't, I think, but I'm not totally sure). The fact that police stations now combat corruption, for example, might not affect existing savegames if the "old" rules about police station behavior are saved in with the savegame.

At a minimum I'd like to get some feedback from someone who's started a new game with the patch.

I do enjoy this game a lot, but just two notes:

1) The population numbers! First person to fix this so I can read them without staring gets a kiss from me;)

2) Corruption right before loading: 56 of 97.
Corruption right after loading: 56 of 97.

I do enjoy the game, but corruption hasn't changed at least in despotism, I haven't checked the others yet.

Regarding corruption, Dan Mahaga tells me that the new effects will not apply to saved games, but to new games only. Something about the bic file.
