I've downloaded the patch, using both an internet site and the game itself, but no matter what I do, when I attempt to install the patch, I am given an error message saying that installshield wizard can't find a copy of Civ 4 on my PC! What's going on here?!?!

I have the Direct to Drive version, if that matters.

I think if you just tell it to ignore the error and continue (I can't recall the dialog options, but there is one for that), then I think it completes OK.

it's not the "source disk not found 1706 error he is talking about.
the patch tells him there IS NO CIV4 INSTALLED.

I am having the same problem.

The hotfix doesnt allow me to play on GameSpy. How do I get the patch 1.09

I follow your instructions and ran both the regedit and the hotfix to no avail. I already had the correct IDs but ran the regedit anyway...

Any other ideas?

sorry, should have explained - the regedit thing is to make the d2d hotfix work with the regular game.
this is why your IDs were "right"- you have the d2d version - you need the OTHER ids for the regular patch to work.

so just reverse the instruction regarding the two IDs.

5) Replace every occurence of "{4377F918-E6C9-4ECA-A7F5-754B310B7ED8}" with "{1CF028E5-705D-4B62-AC1D-A59593B7C0BB}"

you will want {4377F918-E6C9-4ECA-A7F5-754B310B7ED8} (regular game ID) to be in your registry, NOT {1CF028E5-705D-4B62-AC1D-A59593B7C0BB} (d2d ID)

patch should work then :)

Does the D2D hotfix let you play online(with 1.09 users)? I got the hotfix and when I try to join a game it wont let me and tells me I need to a patch. Before 1.09 I could play online just fine with the D2D. Ugh Im never going to use D2D again.
thanks

Well I understand what you are saying and I did reverse the IDs so I have the {4377F918-E6C9-4ECA-A7F5-754B310B7ED8} id in my registry (I double checked) and still not working... any other ideas?
