Hello. It,s a long time since i last played civ3. I still have only the vanilla version.
There seems to be a plethora of patches available which makes things confusing.

Are there patches for the two expansion packs( which i intend to buy)..? or simply ONE generic patch to cover all ...i would appreciate any info on this

Also, does my original game need to be patched before installing either of the addons?
***********************************************************
I cannot believe the amount of mods available at the moment ( seems i,ve missed a hell of a lot).....If you recommend any ..please do so

Thankyou for your time

Regards

Yes, it can be confusing. But not to worry, we've got answers to your questions.

No, there is not one generic patch. The current patch levels are:
VC3 - 1.29f
PTW - 1.27f
C3C - 1.22f

You will need to patch each individually to make them all patched. But don't worry! I address this very shortly. ;)

No, it doesn't! When you install the game, it checks for the latest patch. If it's not there, it applies it for you. So installing the XPs will patch your VC3 (vanilla civ 3) to the latest level, if needed.

It varies. There are a lot of fans of the Warhammer 2.0 mod. If you've ever played Double Your Pleasure it has evolved into a new version for Civ3 Conquests: Rise and Rule. DyP is still available for the VC3 and PTW (Play the World) users.
Really, you just need to browse the C&C section, and find what interests you. Now, I will warn you: DyP is about 80megs d/l, and RnR is about 107megs. Warhammer is pretty big too. But there are a lot of smaller mods out there.

You're quite welcome. It's what we're here for. :)

Now, one point I must make: If you're buying an expansion pack, don't bother with PTW. Just get C3C (Conquests). C3C includes all the content from PTW. It even installs PTW on your systems so you can use C3C to play with PTW players. There are a couple of small unit packs that are missed, but you can d/l them at www.civ3.com.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks so much for that!........i had a feeling each one needed to be patched

Now i,ve finished work for the season, i,ve got plenty of time to do this great game justice ( never had much chance before)

I appreciate the info about not getting PTW!.........cheers

As for the mods, yeah, i,ll have a look around and see what i like

Minor nitpick:
This is NOT true with some localized versions of ptw. More a general hint (ParanoidPig doesn't show a location): Be careful with the non-English versions of VC3/ptw (GOTY,Deluxe,Complete).
