Patches?

I feel like an idiot for asking this but I have to because I read it in so many of the threads. Plus, I didn't know the correct place to post this.

What the hell is a patch and how does it work? How do I use it? I am totally computer illiterate. Can anyone help me out? I am sure there are other members who don't know what a patch is. I heard it for the first time a few weeks ago when I was playing a bootleg of War Craft III. I still have no clue what it is.

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

Patches are, in short, files you can download that'll update your game files. Usually meant to upgrade the version of your game; in the process, some fixes are made, game changes are made etc. Overall, the idea is to make your game more enjoyable, less crash-prone and so on.

Usually a patch file is self-executable, so just need to click on it, specify your game directory and then the patch will exec and update your game files.

The easieat way to apply a patch is.

1.- click on a link to download it.
2.- Download it on your desktop when ask where to dl it.
3.- when dl is finish, then it look like a shortcut on your desktop, double click on it and the instalation is automatic.
4.- once install is finish, you can throw away the patch( shortcut) into garbage.
