Greatest ? Don't know ... Personally, I prefer a lot more Jorge Amado (although it can get kind of pornographic sometimes, but its rare and let's say it is part of its charm). But he is certainly th most famous (thanks to the alchemist).

Hi i am Brazillian and what can i say is: Paulo coelho is a great writer but is better know on foreign and no at Brazil, in our school we learn Carlos Drumond de Andrade, Cora Coralina and other greater writer much more than Paulo Coelho

But Luis de Camões was portuguese and no Brazillian anyway in the 16 century Brasil as a Colony of the Portuguese empire so tecnically can be considered a Great Artist to whole empire including Brasil and some country of Africa
