PBEM setup help

So I have been trying in vain to set up a pbem game for myself and my nephew. But everytime I play my turn then send him the file and he plays his turn and sends me the file, the game says its paused by him and there is nothing he can do. I tried setting it up so that it would send it via email automatically but to again to no avail. Could someone please help me with the proper setup for a pbem game.

Can you not just unpause the game with the Pause key on your Keyboard? If you are on a laptop you may have too press the Function key+Pause key.
