Hi, whenever I run Civilisation 3 I get the mini-logo screen come up but the PC locks during the Infogrames logo segment. The task list (CTRL-ALT-DEL) states that Civilisation3 is running (not responding) and I also have a program called "~ef7194" running too.
I can play the game when I rename the intro.bik file though. But the screen becomes a bit strange and the task bar appears smaller and higher as if its stuck in 800x600 position. I have to manually get rid of it.
The sound (well music anyway) on my SBLive Platinum is also currupted when the game starts.
I've tried everything I can think of and has been mentioned.
1. Lowered the Hardware acceleration a notch.
2. Changed the BIOS AGP aperture to 32 (from 64)
3. Enabled the BIOS Memory Hole 15-16.
4. Installed the correct monitor drivers - not Plug and Play anymore
5. Removed all backgrouns tasks apart from the ones you need.
6. Bought new graphics card! Now have NVideo GForce MX 200 - faster graphics but still have same prob. Used to have Voodoo3 2000.
7. Added more memory, now 256Mb.
8. Installed DirectX 8 (the version on the Civ Disk)
9. Removed all monitor registry settings above 75Hz. HKEYLOCAL/SYSTEM/CURRENT/SERVICE/CLASS/DISP
10. Installed the cracked civ3 exe file from copygameworld.com.
11. Start the game in multiple screen modes.
12. Installed different (older) NVideo drivers.
Nothing works! I do all this and I'm still at square 1 as I was with my Voodoo3 2000!

My system:
Intel BX 440 Chipset AGP
256Mb
PentiumIII 550Mhz
Soundblaster Live Platinum
NVideo GForce MX 200 AGP
20Gb HD
Zenith Data Systems 14" Monitor (works in 1024x768).

What do people recommend? Could there be a problem with the sound card (I couldnt find the new updated drivers)? If so why does the taskbar appear in the middle (left centred) part of the screen? Do other parts of my regestry still need changing?
All help appreciated!
John King.
