Perhaps a font problem?

Just started up the ol' Civ 1 after six years away, using Windows XP. I encountered an issue with the little indicator on the sidebar that tells my treasury amount. It says I have $0QSufb5o5. And it changes to similarly random symbols as I add or subtract gold.

What causes this? How do I fix it?

Thanks.

Daniel,

that is very weird. Since you don't mention dosbox, I figure you are playing the windows verison of civ1 ?

Could it be a language problem ?

Windows XP is very good with different fonts and languages. I have an english windows xp but with lots of french language programs installed and I never had any problems.

However, civ1 for windows is actually a windows 3.11 version I think, so is your windows XP a non-English version? This could be the problem.

OR speaking of fonts, did you costumize you windows XP appearance? If you changed the fonts in your windows setup, maybe that win 3.11 version of civ can't use the new novel font.
