Permanent War or Peace

I tried to use this setting for the first time today. I thought that when I would meet another civ, the game would randomly choose if I would be enemies or allies with them for the rest of the game. When I played I ended up being peaceful with everyone(what a boring way to play). I tried another game with the same rule, and I had the same results. Am I missing something about this option?

It's two options. Permanent War -or- Permanent Peace.

Either you're forever at war with everybody (and they're all at war with each other), or it's flower-power-world.

The flower-power setting is fine if you're going for a cultural victory, as you needn't bother training units except for anti-barbarian defence (and not even then if you've set up with no barbarians), and might be OK for some other victories, but what if you're intent on conquest or domination ? Just imagine the effort you'd have to make to get all the rival cities to flip to your empire . . .

Moonbase, there are 3 options. "Always War - Always Peace - Permanent War or Peace." I am talking about permanent war or peace, I did not choice "always peace." Everytime I play it, I end up having to be peaceful with every civ and can't go to war with any ever. Shouldn't I be stuck at war with some civs and peaceful with others??

also.... Moonbase, when playing "always war" the AI's are not at war with eachother. You are at war with everyone, but they can be peaceful with one another.

No, the 'always war or peace' setting is made for making scenarios. Since you normally start at peace with everyone, you'll be at peace forever in a normal game. You want to use worldbuilder or a scenario editor to set who has wars and who doesn't if you're using this option.

I haven't tried that option but would it go to war if, say, I would meet someone when both of us already had a religion and they were different religions? That would make the starting attitude annoyed...

I haven't tried this setting yet. I assumed it meant that the choice you make when you first meet the civ becomes permanent. You're always at peace because most of us chose peace at the beginning of the game when we meet another civ.

Krittone and Pantastic are correct on this one. Permanent War or Peace should only be used if you are going to use worldbuilder to edit the AI's and your relationships.

I played another game with Permanent War or Peace setting on, and edited everyone's relationships to be at war, and it kept them that way the entire game.

Thanks for the help!

I had the same thing happen with the permanen war or peace option. Every time I have tried it, it was peace. Not once war.

I just wanted to say thanks to all on this thread because my thought on this setting was what MoonBase's was originally. (And I wish it WAS that way . . . that would be a fun option, and it would keep the surprise in it. (Which you lose if you set it all up before hand.) Anyway..) Thanks for the info. Cheers.
