Im a regent player who scored 18753 points ready to give you all some tips(this is more for new players.)
for more info go to these sites:

PartA
starting a game.
New players should try the medium map with 4-5 civs with wet and cold(more grassland:D)
experts use dry and warm(or cold)
If your action oreinted use tiny small ,medium
Builder poeple use large and huge
always use sedentary if you hate barbs(and expansionist)others use no barbs more barb killing types use restless roaming and raging(!WARNING!from restless when 2 civs enter a new age all barbs get a huge stack of units so be carefull)
Building cities is essential.
never send your settler unescorted(always take a spear or a pike
always do your capital on a river(no aqauduct to build and good for building wonders or having, a settler fabrique)Build at least 15-20 cities by 10 BC:)
2 always makes lots of workers.by 2000bc you must have 20 workers or your doomed to have a less productive civ.
3 first focus to get your cities to size 12 then work on producing (without starving those poor sods;) )
4.Military.A civ without a military as like a soldier without a gun.he dies immediately.Get a good military.very early build archers and catapults
if you bombard enough even that veteran spearman on a hill in a city will be easy:)Later get swordsmen for mobility and swordsmen for pure attack(and always bring a spearman of 3 along)
in middle ages use MInfantry and knights.(until gunpowder)
also consider building longbowmen to take out weakened enemy units.
early middle ages until your opponents discover riflemen use cavalry to pummel those suckers.
after riflemen stop research infantry as quick as possible and build infantry and LOTS of artillery or else it will be a bloodbath.
later use tanks(DUH!) with bomber support and artillerry.
Terrain is your best friend or foe.never attack units on a mountain unless they have 1 point and are not fortified.
never attack metropolises across rivers.go behind the rivers and you make a better chance of winning.use mountains to heal your wounded troops.
WONDERS!
in ancient age build the collosus and the great library(non expansionist that is).Never mind to build great wall(although the culture...)
middle ages build almost all wonders their the best in civ3.
all basic stuff right?
Industrial ages build theory evolution to give you that final leap in science to get that breakthrough
in modern ages only build CFC(cure for cancer that is:D) and the internet and SETI
Btw
best civs for builders:Egyptians babs persiansfrench
best civs for warmongers:scandinavia,English china and Japan(how could i forget those?:D
best UU:(for his time) berserker.

Btw here comes the good part off it.
if you have to choose between a scientific civ and a expansionist civ take expansionist.
i got to middle ages in 2100 and a bit BC!
please extra warriors, settlers, maps and gold sounds attractive right?

Btw Goverments:
always change as quick as possible out of Despotism.
mili civs use monarch or communism(although forced labour sucks in communism)
and most players use Republic and only democracy when your a religiuos civ.

best civs for warmongers:scandinavia,English china

and Japan!
I almost always play as japan. relegious makes it worth switching governments even if it's just for 10-20 turns of war/peace and cheap temples help me fill the gaps in my borders, later cheap cathedrals + sistine chapel keep my ppl happy.
militaristic for cheap early baracks.
i always do a small archer attack against my nearest civ, then only horsemen which upgrade to samurai.
the UU is also one of the best because it comes at the beginning of the middle age. i always wait till i got music theory and invention before starting a war and triggering the golden age, that way I'm able to get most, if not all of the middle age wonders and take a tech leap straigt to military tradition by using the 20 turns to creep along the bottom of the tech tree, then upgrade the samurais and slaugther some more :D

I forgot to mention those.
sorry i typed a much bigger version before but then it suddenly was all erased.i sweared a lot at that time.
will edit it now:)

The great Tokugawa will forgive you. (this time) :king:

Sorry, but currently i'm in the "spam" phase, you have to wait till after my next civ game to get a pizza

pasta & pizza rule the world!:goodjob:

I'm a Republic-using warmonger. Just make sure to pick your fights carefully, and always have 'extra' happy or content people to soak up WW, and get US, no matter what. Works well, and you can keep up in research and gold.

Is this serious? How is this possible? I'm happy if I get 10 cities by 10 BC, and sure couldn't do that if I built even half of those 20 workers (and with just 10 workers I wouldn't feel doomed by the way ).

And how do you pull this off while growing cities to size 12?

Not trying to be nasty here but I thought myself an experienced player and now you've set some standards that I don't think I've EVER achieved on the standard map. Just so new players don't get frightened, I really don't think getting that big that fast is realistic in most games (ok, ok, I'll accept its possible but really...is it the climate setting you choose?)

Still, if you pull it off I can see how the score would be so high....

I can do it ill show you a savegame in 10 bc with 20 cities its really easy!
And if you dont believe i got into middle ages by around 2100 and a bit Bamspeedy got into it at 2700 and a bit BC:eek:
also choose your priorities.
want expansion more settlers but youll be less productive beciuase of less workers
but make you have at least 15 workers
hmm my last saves is on 400 and a bit AD.
will try a new game for it...

Do I detect just teeny hint of boasting here from Phillippe and a large dollop of scepticism from Dave McW?
