Pirates! doesn't start :(

I just bought Pirates! today and I can't get it to start. All I get is a black screen with a spinning wheel (you know, that thing you steer a ship with). I don't care much about graphics, but just a spinning wheel is a bit disappointing :crazyeye:

I have the Euro-version, tried all sorts of things; patch it to 1.2, using no-cd patches, worked my way to the standard tech-support trash (so please, don't give me another link to that) and messing with the config.ini file (which is empty).

My specs are over the minimum requirements, allthough I'll upgrade my 256Mb ram to 256+1024mb (too tired to do math right now ). Don't know if that matters. Just for stats: Pentium Centrino 1.5Mhz, 256MbRam, Nvidia GeforceFX 5200 64MB.

Can somebody please tell me what to do? Is there a bright light and the end of this tunnel or should I just turn around and ditch the game?

Never mind, it works now. I had to reformat my pc...
Must have been some spyware that prevented it from starting ;).

T0mme, I am having the same problem as what you had, but I was wondering if you knew specifically what the problem is, because a reformat is a last resort. I have disabled my firewall, and antivirus software (both Norton), and I don't have any spyware.

So does anyone have any ideas?
