It is time to start planning for a new technology path.

Industrial Age: (Not Researched and not in the current Queue)
Tech's we will beable to research immediantly:
Atomic Theory (currently a ToE technology)
Electronics (currently a ToE technology)
*Nationalism
Radio
The Corporation

Other Techs:
Steel Needs The Corporation
Refining Needs The Corporation
*Espionage Needs The Nationalism
*Communism Needs The Nationalism
Combustion Needs The Corporation, Steel, and Refining
Flight Needs The Corporation, Steel, Refining, and Combustion
Mass Production Needs The Corporation, Steel, Refining, and Combustion
Motorized Transportation Needs The Corporation, Steel, Refining, Combustion, and Mass Production
*Amphibious Warfare Needs The Corporation, Steel, Refining, Combustion, and Mass Production
*Advanced Flight Needs The Corporation, Steel, Refining, Combustion, and Flight

I would say to do the following:

Keep Atmoic Theory and Electronics as our ToE techs and set the queue as the following:

The Corporation (5 Turns)
Refining (8 Turns)
Steel (7 Turns)
Combustion (8 Turns)
Mass Production (7 Turns)
Motorized Transportation (7 Turns)
Flight (9 Turns)
Radio (10 Turns)
re-assess

This should get us through the age, and hopefully we will beable to trade for Nationalism, Espionage, etc. We should beable to finish these techs at our current research rate in 61 turns. Keep an open trading policy untill we get to motorized transportation.

Seriously, as future Minister/Deputy of the Foreign Affairs Department, I think it is pretty unlikely that rival civs will put a high priority on Espionage. So I doubt we would get it in trade anytime soon.

On the other hand, we do not have a dire need for Espionage right now, so I am fine with your tech queue otherwise. But if you wish to place a priority on spy activity, we may need to research it ourselves.

We've grown very big and corruption plagues our outer cities, communism would rid us of most of the corruption
 
We should shot for Motorized Transportation :).
 
We need Nationalism, I think we can trade for it. We could get Espionage because Spies are useful when you are at war with a nation, because they cut all Embassies. Also it gets us a SGW. Getting Communism is good because it give us Police stations.

Strider, you need to add * to Nationalism, Communism and Espionage also.

I'm betting that were beable to trade for Nationalism also, although I doubt we can get Communism and Espionage through trade. Right now, I just want to keep the tech pace as fast as possible, if the AI has a tech we don't have, trade any technology (except motorized transportation) to get it.

Let's try to get threw the Industrial Ages in record time and start building up our Modern Empire.

Also, thanks for pointing that out, forgot about it.
 
Just get Nationalism, damn it , we are falling behind in diplomacy and military thanks to some miserly peacenik minds with blind capitalist interests, financial Embryons.

Only thing about researching Nationalism is that's it's pretty risky. We've been working on the bottom part of the tech tree for the last 40 some-odd turns. It is VERY likely that another AI has already started research on Nationalism, and if we were to start research on it, and they were to finish it shortly afterward, that's several turns of research down the drain.

There is also a chance that a Scientific Civ might enter the Industrial ages and receive Nationalism as there free tech. I don't really want to start researching something, only to find out that we wasted several thousand vials for nothing. At our current research rate, 3 turns of research is 2352 gold. Do we really want to commit to something, and find out later it was a waste?

Actually, Strider, most Civs already have Nationalism so I agree with your assessment. Provo should be directing his concerns to the Trade Department, who already have this covered via poll.

We can already sign MPPs with anyone who has nationalism. As for the military part, I think we've got that covered don't we?
 
No question about it, I want nationalism, but clearly, you are against.
 
I'm with blackheart - no need to research optional techs, just trade for them. If we can pull ahead with the ToE slingshot, then we can take 'old' techs to trade for Nationalism...almost all the civs have it, so it's pretty cheap.
 
Well, I am not going to wait a Forbidden Palace Time Unit to get it. I need it early Term V. But again, it belongs to the trade people now. Term V has different security needs than Term IV, hence the need for Nationalism.

Just beat the crap out of the Zulu and get it in the peace deal :D
 
Okay, I will earn my stripes, beat the Zulus and take Nationalism from them instead of the stingy Trade Dept. But if someone tries to cheat me of nationalism in peacedeal, I will leave their named cities undefended and ask for as many RoP deals as possible.

:lol: :lol: I'm sure the governors will just draft citizens. It isn't just "your" nationalism either, it's everyones.

as a potential FA minister, i think both Nationalism and Espionage are very usefull. I belive we should get Nationilise though trade. Then get espionage later. But we are falling behind militaryly without nationlism. The ability to use MMPs, embargos, drafts and mobilisation is too much to leave behind. We might be able to get Nationlism off of Zulu in a peace treaty.
