Howdy.

I've got an ancient notebook I use for email when on the road. It's sans keypad. I looked through the rules text, but could find no way to reassign movement keys. Figure there must be *some* way.

Thanks for the help!

There is a way to use mouse movement, I beleive it is under Game Option in the File menu... though I don't recommend it.

ANd what if the 'pageup pagedown end and home' keys aren't really working out, like on most laptops?

any way to use other keys?

I'm afraid not...

But don't most laptops have the keypad embedded inside the keyboard, so to speak? That is, you have to press num lock or some other function key to use, say, UIO/JKL/M,. as the keypad. (as you can probably tell, I haven't seen a laptop in a while)

And would home, end etc work if you turn on/off num lock (assuming that even exists)?

If the keys still aren't cooperating, you'd have to use the mouse. Either select "mouse movement" (which is rather tedious), or simply use the goto mouse feature...

When a unit is blinking, click and hold your mouse over the square you want it to go to. After a second or to, the cursor will change to a "go to" graphic. Release it, and your unit is on its way. And this also means you don't have to move units square by square, although you should be VERY careful for longer distances (and the map edge/"zero meridian" on round maps), because the GoTo function is whack.

thanks for thinking ;) but unfortunatly i tried that already i enabled the keybed and therefor disabled the I O and P functions in the game :( sadly i found it very annoying to switch the keypad on and off every second.....:nuke:

That's all you can do with a lot of laptops. Mine has a "Shift key"-style Function key which isn't really a lock, so every time I'm about to move using the directional keys (which as you pointed out include I,O,U, etc.), I just hold down the key and release it when I'm done using the unit.

I also use the GoTo command a LOT.

Is there a way to remap keys for civ2, btw? I am running it on an older laptop and it's annoying to have to hold FN+the key.
