Players Guide Worth it??

Who needs a players guide when you can ask questions on a forum and search for answers here, too...

I'd worry that it's out of date and useless. One reviewer on amazon:

"If you've played Civ for any amount of time, you'll probably know most of the mechanics of the game. That, combined with the many online resources and the in-game Civilipedia, already provide you with a wealth of knowledge about the game.

"This book just takes most of that knowledge and puts it in a nice, concise form that I can read in the toilet. Nothing really new, and certainly nothing ground-breaking. In fact, a lot of the information would probably be obsolete after a few patches and DLCs."

Another reader complains that it is "not a strategy guide" but more like a user manual. Given the tendency in publishing official guides, I suspect that is right too.

That's for the info and perspective :-)

nah... be your own guide. A huge part of the enjoyment has always been to learn the game on the go.

absolutly not.

I helped someone on the steam forums, and as help i got shogun 2 brady guide (it was on my wishlist, i never asked for it). The price is 10euro, but there is absolutly nothing in it that you cant find on forums or videos

Player guides were more useful like 15 years ago (:old:) when everyone had dial-up and gaming sites were fan-made, half-finished, and not very useful.

Unless you are huge on concept art and such, there isn't anything a guide can offer that you can't get for free.

After all the game patches and upgrades parts of the guide are likely outdated. Civfanatics is all you need.

To add, commercial player guides are only useful for games that don't get patched.

Civilization V is a game that gets patched. Thus, a commercial player guide for Civilization V isn't terribly useful, because the patches increase the chances of the information listed in the strategy guide to be incorrect.
