Simple question.

I have Civ II v2.42 I was wanting to know how you play scenarios?

I have downloaded a couple and saw several text files, etc. Do I simply copy those into my Civ2 directory (after making a backup of course)? If I want to switch between the scenario and another standard game I am playing do I have to swap files around all over the place?

I found a ModPack utility but it does not work for me (win 2k?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Smitty

Ok, all you have to do is go to "Begin A Scenario" on the options menu. From there you should then be able to select your downloaded scenario by finding it from its folder.

Its quite difficult to explain, but I hope I helped.

If you have version 2.42, most scenarios will not work too well. Here's why.
1. Events will not work
2. Civ 2.42 has only 3 extra unit and tech slots. Scenarios created with Fantastic Worlds and MGE have more unit and tech slots. Most scenarios have been created with Fantastic Worlds and MGE.
3. You probably can't read them in with the Begin Scenario option, you'll get a wrong version message. About your only option is to find some modpacks designed for Classic Civ 2.42. In this you can do what you suggested by replacing the game files.

it is much easier to put each individual scenario in a seperate folder, that way you don't have to go making backups and possibly losing the original files.

Well, Somebody sure gave a great piece of advice for a "nobody", LOL . Yup, this is a very good idea!

EDIT: Added: The source of my above comments may not be obvious now, because at the time of the post, H Tower's title (under his name) read "CFC Nobody...", and the comments were about his "Nobody" tag... I was making the point that he is a somebody in spite of his self-described "Nobody" tag, LOL ;).

i haven't been here enough or posted enough to be someone though. I am a non person still. With only a measly 132 posts. But i'm working on that:D

edit:removed the big-ass picture in starlifter's sig

The post count thing is a red herring. At best, it can be very misleading. Some of the "best" posts I've seen have been from people that have less than 100. You are "somebody" as soon as you have something interesting to post.. and besides, almost every post will be like by some, disliked by others, and ambivilent by the majority ;). Looking forward to seeing your posts ....

BTW, the picture is reduced in size by 33% to make it smaller for the threads,

EDIT: Added: See Edit note in my immediate prior post in this thread for context!
