I bought Civilization V today.

I created a map using the World Builder; I added resources, cities, units, and start points. When I started the game (by finding my map in the advanced set-up menu), I realised that something was very wrong. It was the map I had created, but none of the cities or units were where I had put them. All it had done was to use my map, and ignored the cities and units.

How do I make it so that the cities and units I place in World Builder actually appear in the game? Do I need to convert the map into a scenario? It seems that the map is being used, but everything else is lost. My map doesn't show up in the scenario menu either, which makes me think that I need to convert the map into a scenario.

To be honest, I like a very active game. So I usually set up a map where I have two or three cities with some strong units protecting, and lots of resources. Then I put the difficulty on maximum. If I didn't cheat a bit then I'd get wiped out. But I find the lower difficulty levels too slow and a bit dull. I find this way a nice compromise. I give myself an initial boost, but the other countries soon catch me up.

Thanks in advance!

Not done it myself, but the standard advice is that, after selecting the map, you have to tick a box saying something about a scenario - otherwise it ignores all that info.

Thanks for the reply, but there is no such box. I've been through every single one of them. I don't understand why the game is being so silly. It's a big map with several continents. But every time, without fail, it puts a rival on an adjacent tile.

The Civ 3 Conquests editor was easier to use than this one. It makes me laugh. Sid did an interview talking about "seamless functionality", and having a team developing the World Builder since day one. Seems like he was fibbing.

Does anyone else have any ideas? I have a complete map with cities, terrain, resources, units, etc. But the game ignores the cities and the units.

Go into single player advanced setup and select your map (Japan v1 in this picture)

after your map is selected and your settings, set click back and you will see a load scenario option as is in this pic.

hope that is what you are looking for.

That's great, thanks. I've managed to get the map working.

I still have a couple of bugs. Even though I told it I wanted to be England, my cities are English, and the Queen Elizabeth graphic comes up when then map's loading; the voice over refers to me as the "Mighty Khan". The Breifing thinks I'm the Mighty Khan too.

Moreover, the game has a 100 move limit. I need to beat four other civs within 100 moves or it's game over. How do I change those settings? I don't want a move limit.

Go into mods or scenarios and see if you have the Mongol Scenario enabled. That's what sounds like is occurring.
