Hi, I have had Civ3 for quite a while now. I just purchased a new laptop and installed Civ3 Complete on it. The installation ran fine:) but whenever I try to run I get the following message:

"Please insert the Civilization 3 Complete CD-ROM" ect.:(

My laptop runs Vista but I have read that Civ runs on Vista. The drive is a CD- R/RW and DVD R/RW drive. Please help me figure this out.

This is going to sound like a brush off but it is not.

Others have had problems with CivIII and Vista and posted in this forum (Civ3 - Technical Support). Check the other threads; you might get lucky.

Drat, that's bad.

Using those same disks, can you install C3C (Civ3Complete) onto another machine, like an XP or Win98 box?

This next is going to make me sound like a jerk; sorry.

You do know that the CD does need to be in same drive that you installed from, don't you?

I know there have been times I've tried to play but the Charming Mrs. CommandoBob has removed the game disk for her clip art stuff. Then I get that same message you get.

The laptop i'm using has only one disk drive. I have heard that sometimes it doesn't work on drives with CD or DVD burners?

Ok, I'm taking a shot in the dark here. Some Vista users seem to have fewer problems with software installed if they, (quote from another thread), "I also disabled User Account Control first thing after installing Vista, though I don't know how that would make much of a difference." and it's recommended as the very first thing to do when you get your machine. I don't have Vista myself, but I suppose eventually I'll have to face that "joy". :(

Try uninstalling Civ, disable User Account Control (permanently), then reinstall Civ and see if that helps.

The actual discussion was about installing the Civ utility, CivAssist II, which many of us use in-game while playing. The account control is meant to prevent software changes by other users than the admin, but it seems to mostly just get in the way.

Good luck!!! :D

umm... If it is having a cd problem, you could always get a crack... You sometimes need cracks, I need one for v1.22 of civ conquests because it didn't recognize the cd.

That may be the fix he needs, but he won't find it here. The Mods are pretty adamant on that.

No cd cracks on this site.
