Please insert the correct CD-Rom - Another One

So I have the "Please insert the correct CD-Rom" problem. I've read through this forum like an insane person. I've tried every fix I can figure out how to do, but I am not a tech savvy person and a lot of the suggestions I just didn't get how to do them.

Can someone help me try to figure this out please.

(And yes, I've tried both disks. Tried re-installing repeatedly. Tried doing the kill all background stuff using msconfig.)

Help please! I've been saving up for months to get this game because I love CIV so much and I'm quite unhappy. I have no problem running any other game, including newer big games like Guild Wars, etc.

It's overzealous copy protection. Hopefully they'll patch it.

I have this problem too. So there's nothing to do, you just can't install and that's it????

At least I have a second computer (an older one, go figure) it installs fine on. But if I didn't . . . are they at least giving you your money back?

Suprised the mods let this stay up for 2 days.

Aside from that you actually dont own the game (common misconception). You own a license to use the software. When you install a pc game you agree to the end user licensing agreement aka EULA.

I belive thats why the law regarding copying VHS movies doesent apply, when you copy a movie you dont agree to any licensing agreement.

Each country is probably different.

CivSeattle. Sorry to hear about your problem; same I have had for months. Civ4 has been sitting on my laptop and I am furious I have never been able to play it! However, when I saw your message that you Fixed yours, I had real hope! I went to the page you recommend. It has a lot of links and was not really sure which you meant. I assume you meant that the solution involved downloading and installing a certain program named after a famous scavenger dog (and Bruce Willis movie)? If so, I did that, used the Wizard which SHOWS Civ4 as one of the AUTO choices. Went all the way thru the 5 steps and was very excited; would I FINALLY have access to this game!? When the Disk drive popped open, I inserted the CD (yes the "wrong" one, since the PLAY CD is not the correct to use). The game LOADING screen came up, and H/D whirled awhile, and then the dreaded box came up: "Insert the Correct CD". AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!! WHAT DID I DO WRONG? Please help; months ago I gave up but your cryptic message gave me hope. Is there something more direct and informative you can offer? R

Never Mind. Went back to the page, found the FILE ARCHIVE that says it will replace the original .exe file. HALLELUJAH!!! I cannot believe it worked! I cannot blame a company for wanting to protect their property, but Firaxis should be ashamed that so many of their avid fans had to go through hours of frustration and wasted efforts. In any case, Thanks Civ Seattle!
