What determines whether or not a city gets those
yellow triangles warning of pollution problems?

1) In my last game, I had a city of size 2 with no factory
and it got one of those warnings. Why, when other
cities had pop. greater than 12 with factory and no
warnings?

2) If a city has both a factory and a large population
(say greater than 8-10) and you get a couple of
those warnings, should you build mass transit or
recycling first (assuming both options exist)?

3) What determines whether you actually get polution
on a city square? Some cities have those yellow
warnings but no square ever gets polluted while
other cities have pollution popping up everwhere.

Thanks.

Never seen this happen.. Did you have a city with the same name?

My experience tells me that if you have a large population then you will get some polution regardless of whether you have any factory/ loads of mines & forests. this generally only happens from size 12+ and you will need mass transit to alleviate it.

If you have heavy production then you will need recycling as well. Even may need solar energy in order to be completely green

I have no idea on point 3 but you've come to the right place to get answers;)

I know this one is listed as the Duplicate, but it has more info in it than the other one. You can always rename this one to be the main one and the other a duplicate. And, if you really want to you can PM one of the Mods and ask them to delete it.

1) The pollution symbols within the city screen are generated by the production of the city and the population of the city. One of those had to be larger for it to have the warnings. If the population was smaller, then it must have had a much larger production capacity then the larger city.

2) Mass Transit completely eliminates the population side of pollution, while a solar plant completely eliminates the productions side of pollution. The recycling center only reduces the production pollution. Mass Transit usually helps quite a bit once your city is above a size 15 or so. IIRC, your population will not contribute to the pollution warnings until you discover Automobile.

3) The number of pollution warnings is the percent chance that the city will produce an actual polluted square on the map.

Once the cities get large enough and you are far enough along in the game, build a Mass Transit and a Solar Plant and you won't have to worry about pollution in the city at all.

1) If you have a resource such as Coal, it might make some pollution.

2) Probably Recycling. Population pollution begins at around 15 Pop. I found... Of course if your city doesnt produce much shield anyways, it won't matter too much. After about 20-30 shields the pollution begins to rack up.

3) It's mostly random I think, with more chance if you have more Pollution signs.

Hmm, I don't think so. I think I have had population pollution without Automobile before. Gonna check with cheats ;)

EDIT: Oi, you're right ;) I started a new game, cheated to make the city 99. There was no pollution. Then I acquired Automobile and wow

WOW! That is freakin' great stuff by Starlifter!
