This game has come to a point with me,where I start getting grey hair. The pollution production is uncontrolable and I need something like 30 workers on every freaking Island just to control this. There is no more sense, nor fun to this game, all I am doing now is give orders to workers (every freaking turn).
I know that masstransportation and recycling facility reduce pollution, but darn.....they take 125 turns......and I don't have the money to get them faster.

I own the gold edition of CiV III and want to know, if someone had the great idea to make mod that gets rid of pollution. I want to have FUN with this game and not a headache!!

Desperate in search of a non pollution game..........

Could someone help, and please don't tell me all the tricks of this and that on how to control the pollution, I think I know them all. I'm looking for something to completely gets rid of pollution.

I searched , but there's tooo much stuff on this site....lol

Thank you

if you set the workers on automatic they will clear the pollution automaticly

and since you have that much of it they wont have time to be busy with other things so then you can layback and see the workers do it auto :)

hope this will help you, it helps me atleast, and i play from the beginning with workers set on auto, theyre doing a good job and not some stupid things like building a mine on dessert. the auto mode rules :)

edit: i saw you didnt wanted tricks to get rid of it.. a well.. hopefully someone else likes this idea ;)

Using the editor you can get rid of all pollution from buildings, and with mass transportation pollution from overpopulation (above 12) is reduced, but the population pollution can't be changed. I've never had a problem with it though, as the game is usually won long before it becomes a major concern.

the population pollution can't be changed.
If you set the Hospital to reduce population pollution by a lot, it works.

Thank you for the help and suggestions. Though I would like to know of what Editor you were talking about and what do I do with the Editor and where to get it.

I wish that pollution didn't even exist in my game at all. Any way to modify the .dat file to get rid of it permenantly?

In other games that I play with, one can modify a certain file or with help of a mod, one can completely change certain gamefiles.I am surprised that no one has thought of getting rid of the pollution once and for all yet. That should be quite easy, no?

If I set my workes on auto, then they won't have the time to build anything anyways, unless I overexagerate the population of workers.

I hope someone can help, meanwhile ,thanks for your suggestions.

The editor comes with the game, there's a 'help' function that explains a bit about using it.

I also used to worry about pollution. Even with Mass Transit and Recycling, it's still a problem. Then I started reading threads about city placement, and how many expert players don't even build hospitals. Basically, just keep your city population capped at 12, and you will not have problems with pollution. When your food reserves reach their maximum and your city shows it will grow in 9999 turns (basically "never", because you have no hospital) pop out a worker or a settler. This will also force you to keep your empire more productive and to grow it faster. 20+ population super-mega-metropolises with tons of specialists and entertainers may seem cool at first sight, but actually it's a total waste of production. You will be able to beat the game on much higher levels once you get over the super-mega-metropolis fetish, and you won't have to spend half your turn cleaning up after your sloppy citizens ;)

MikeH, Thanks for the suggestion but this editor you talk about I know already ,and you can use it only on scenarios and not the regular random maps.

danz, if no one has done a mod to get rid of the pollution , then I might have to do what you say. It sounds good and I will surely try it. To H*** with these Mega Cities, if I can beat the pollution easier and have more fun with the rest of the game.

My opinion: This stupid pollution stuff should have never been there in the first place, or only on a *click on/off demand* for those who like it.More games should have the on/off option for certain styles or whatever.

I bought this game to have fun and not grow white hair......lol

Thanks folks for all the help. This is appreciated. If you ever come to Simtropolis and need help with SimCity4, pm me there (under mrbisonm). I'll return what I received here. Thank you.

I believe there is a file called "Civ3Mod" or "PTWMod" that you can modify the rules and it would be changed in the epic game. I could be wrong though.

Probably am.

Why so definite statements about stuff you apparently don't know very much about? :)
It is possible to make a scenario with a random map; this is commonly known as a mod. It isn't so strange to play a mod instead of the normal game, personally I haven't played a normal game for about two years, only modded ones. :) I think that the game has to be modded to be playable. ;)

Tomoyo is right in that you can change the default rule file, but that's not a very good idea, it's better to make a "scenario" file; personally I have a mrtn.biq with my changes to the ordinary game in it.

What mrtn's trying to say is this: use the editor to change the rules but don't do any map-making. When you run that 'scenario' it will jump to the standard random map screen just like any other new game...

P.S. - I own the same version of the game you do and I can't say I've ever experienced the out-of-contreol situation you describe.; a spot here and there once every few turns quickly cleaned up by the workers.

ok, let me get this straight now.
The regular Editor that comes with the game, one can use to make the changes in gameplay, such as pollution reduction, for the regular random maps in the opening pages?
But how do I save these changes without making any map? I don't get this part.- I know I can make unlimited scenarios with the Editor, but to modify the random mapmaker with it , is new to me.Could someone please explain in more details?
Thanks......

You are not modifying the map maker. The editor lets you change any part of the game. Don't make a map for the scenario (in other words, leave the default BIG BLANK OCEAN alone) and the scenario will use the standard random mapmaker.

Go to the 'Scenario' dropdown menu, select 'custom rules'. Go to the 'rules' dropdown menu, select 'edit rules'. A couple simple ways to mod out your problem:

1. Under the 'worker jobs' tab, 'Worker Jobs' scrolling menu, scroll down to 'Clear Pollution' and change the 'Turns to complete' to a lower value.

2. Under the 'Improvements and Wonders' tab, reduce the cost of those improvements you find so unbuildable.

Save the mod. Open the game. Load the mod - it will run you through the standard map generator and civ selection, but use your modded rules.

word of advice with poultion DONT build railroads everywhere only on line connecting all you cities and makeing it easy to get to every square have roads everywhere, Rail Roads add alot of needless poultion-i got threw the industrial age with 0 poultion thats right ZERO modern age a little though

wierd...

i buid them EVERYWHERE so workers can clean it up fast.

No they don't, afaik. Only population, factories, coal plants, etc give you pollution, if I'm correct.
And volcanos in C3C.

i can tell you i just playedfour games-past couple weeks- two i created a one line between all of them and the other two i built RR everywhere the games with the RR had ALOT more pollution then the other games

I am 94.451% sure that that was because of the increase food output on railed irrigated squares.

Rails = Higher Pop = Higher pollution = Need more workers = Easy because of Higher population = :D
