Possible bug with music!!!

Ok so here's what happened. I was playing on a terra map and was at war with salladin. I was about 4-5 turn to research music and saladin was at one city left when i got a message that he was the first to research music. He did get an artist cause his borders expanded. 2 turns later i conquered his last city and he was dead. another few turns later ( 2 or 3) i researched music myself and quess what, i got another great artist. Im not sure if this happens with liberalism or circumnavigation of the globe but i think this is definitely a bug.

PS: i did search the forum but i didnt find anything about this.

His borders could have expanded because of culture, you know. But that still doesn't explain the pop-up message.

i know that it could have been a culture expansion but as you're saying it doesnt explain the message. i guess that when a civ researhces liberalism the game simply checks if theres an exsisting civ with the tech and acts accordingy. since salladin was destroyed it was like i was the first to research.
