Even though I've been playing Civ 2 for quite a long time I just stumbled upon a question that I can't seem to answer.

Are Power Plants mutually exclusive or do they work in combination. By this I mean are they an "OR" or an "AND".

I'm in a game and I'm building some power plants in my cities that have factories however I know that I'm going to complete the Hoover Dam in about 5 turns (which will give me a hydro plant in every city on the continent).

Will this hydro plant's 50% production bonus work on TOP of the power plant's 50% bonus or wil it REPLACE the power plants production bonus?

Thanks in advance!

Just 1 power plant type is needed. The only advantage is the lessening pollution with each type from normal>solar.

So,no,with Hoover's you don't need to build any other types. You can sell off older outdated power plants.

You can build solar plants in high sheild high pollution cities despite Hoover's if needed. The one benefit of solars over others is they reduce global warming should that become a problem.

which will give me a hydro plant in every city on the continent
I'm pretty sure that it actually counts for every city you have and not only those on the same continent. I think it says wrong in the Civolopedia:)

Also, Hoovers gives you a Hydro Plant in cities where you could not have built one otherwise because of terrain restrictions, which I THINK has to do with being adjacent to rivers or Mtns (also not mentioned in Civopedia).

So maximum Shields multiplication is 150%: Factory (50%), any (reg, hydro, nuc, solar) Power Plant (50%), and Manuf Plant (50%).

Remember that power plant alone gives NOTHING.
(this happens quite often when you conquer an industrial foreign city: the AI loves to give you a city with power plant and without factory :D :D :D )

This means that it is wise to have a look and either build the factory or sell the power plant;) .

I Belive it is a "and"

No - there is only one 50% increase to Shield production due to any of the power plants, normal, Hydro, Nuclear or Solar.

Later in the game you need a solar plant and a mass transit - no more pollution in that city. If you build about 15 solar plants, the risk of global warming is nearly 0. The amount depends on the number of cities you have built.
And remember: No pollution skulls will appear on airbase fields.

Really? Never heard that one. Learn something new every day.

The airbase really can be used for cheating:eek: Unless you think it's "unethic" to use airbases or fly a lot of planes there's no point in building anyt other improvement in late game.
