Problem with Civ3 Conquests Patch 1.22

Turner, thanks for your advice. I downloaded the 1.15 patch last night and installed it tonight. Conquests actually loaded to the entry window. I read and copied the Readme file, and then pressed Play Conquests. It started to launch, and then did a stack dump. (I copied and saved the details message from the stack dump if anyone understands the intricacies of those lists of numbers.) That's okay, though. I think that installing the 1.15 patch ruled out that the 1.22 patch is somehow flawed at its point of origin for my drivers or OS. It can't (or at least most probably is not) since the 1.15 would not successfully run either.
So, its either my system or my download speed. Thanks for all your help and advice. I'm just flustered that I can fix many problems on others computers, and often do, but I can't get a simple patch to work for my favorite game. Which means I can't upgrade to Teturkhan's Test of Time 2.0. :(
Would anybody be willing to burn 1.22Full onto a CD for me? I will pay in advance by money order for postage, the CD, and your trouble. I'm desperate now. (Maybe I'll go stand by the on ramp this weekend, with a cardboard sign that reads "Will work for 1.22 patch CD.")

No, as it's provided free on the internet.

But that won't work

He has dialup, which is why he's asking someone else to d/l it and snailmail it to him.

Also, depending on his ISP, he may not be able to recieve a 20mb file.

Ah, then that won't work.

Have you tried using a download manager to see if that will not 'corrupt' the download, if that is what you think the problem is (google "download manager" "GetRight" is only 3 megabytes in size, so they aren't too huge).

Maccabee - I think it's your computer. I don't know how or why, but it makes sense to me that the problem is on your PC. Sorry, I hate to say it that way. :(

Do you have a friend's PC you can load it on? Try that, and install the patches if you have them on a mass storage device. If they're having the same problem, then it would be the program.

Do this:

Unistall Civ3 and any expansion packs you have.

Move any save files you wish to keep to a different directory.

Delete any Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III directory in Program Files.

Empty the Recycle bin.

Go to Start/Run, and enter Regedit.exe

Do a 'File/Save As', and ssave the registry to your desktop under some name like "regbackup".

Go here. It explains how to manually clean the registry of Civ3. Follow the directions.

Open your Task Manager. Shut down all processes except for explorer.exe and systray.exe. These are the minimum files you need to run Win98.

Install Vanilla Civ. Patching is optional.

Install C3C. If you haven't patched VC3, it will patch when you update.

Play a game, make sure it's running and you get past the problems you were having.

(At this point, if you were playing on XP, I would say create a system restore point here.)

Install the 1.22 patch. If you've got the 1.20 patch, and the smaller 1.20 -> 1.22 patch, I would try that. This would be a different upgrade path that you previously took.

Something that keeps tickling me is that the original installation crapped out on you. Maybe it was another program running in the background. Maybe it was something in the registry. By cleaning the reg of your Civ3 entries, and resintalling with nothing else going on, it would give you the 'cleanest' install I think. One free of anything else going on.

Good luck. I really don't think this will work, but it's worth a shot. Not trying to send you on a snipe hunt here, but I may have done that.

I didn't think of that. I'll dl a dl manager and try that, if Turner's suggestion doesn't work. Thanks. :D

Turner,
You are probably right. I'll try what you suggested. Now that none of my Civs respond or launch (due to, once again, trying to install a patch), I have to uninstall all Civs, civ folders, backup my saves, mods, and personal creations to another folder, anyways. That is probably the most frustrating part of this whole process. Every time I decide, "Well, maybe this will work if I try it this way, " then I effectively throw away any chance of playing the game at all for at least a day or two that it takes to uninstall and clean up all the files and reinstall everything after the failed attempt. I have very little leisure time, what with 3 kids.
What you said about the Regedit sounds worth a try. Aside from stack dumps, I was planning to research registry checks and how to clean them up. I used the Regedit the other night, but I didn't really know what I was doing. (I need to buy a book on Win 98 troubleshooting anyways. It's getting to be personal now, like a man vs. machine vendetta.)

Umm no I doubt it. I'm getting the same problem as this guy was. It never tells me the installation is complete or anything. Need help.

Hmm, im getting the same problem as all the rest here and i tried the REGEDIT trick but when i tried installing conquests without installing vanilla civ 3 it let me.

Also what i have noticed is that when C3C breaks down the autorun screen shows the install option but no play option. is anyone else getting this?
