I have just bought a new computer with the out of the box Windows 7. I've been in the process of reinstalin my games to this computer and was horrified to discover that my Civ4 discs no longer work to instal the original game. I decided to bite the bullet and just buy Civilization 4 Complete from gamersgate. I have followed all installation procedures exactly, using administrator access just to make sure.
After installing the game itself and playing a few turns with vanilla just to make sure it was working correctly, I downloaded and installed Community Civ5. I used the shortcut the installation procedure creates (once more running as administrator) and it failed to even begin to load up the mod into the game. I checked out what I could find on these forums for tips, but as far as I can tell, I've followed all proper methods.
Hoping that CC5 was simply the problem alone, I then downloaded Cavemen2Cosmos in an attempt to see if the problem was isolated. After unzipping this mod into the appropriate folder, I went into the game itself, and tried the Load Mod option. This failed as well, and I never even saw a loading mod screen, like before. I tried this long way without the shortcut with CC5 as well.
Curious to see if it was a mod issue altogether with my comptuer or with Civilization 4 complete, I attempted to load the Next War mod from within the program. The mod loaded with no problems at all. Therefore the problem must be with the mods I have downloaded, and no others. Can anyone point out where I went wrong and how to fix it?
EDIT: Apparently I wasn't as thorough as I thought. I completely forgot to patch the game to full standards.
