Hi folks,

just played Civ IV for the first time, what a game!

Loved it but had a slight problem at times with some of the text. It started ok but later on it looked like

civIVpic1.jpg

civIVpic2.jpg

Any ideas?

I have the same problem when I try to run civ4 on my laptop. All text is like that; just white boxes, including the menu functions when you start the game up. Hopefully someone knows how to fix this.

Hey- I have a slightly different problem with my text, and haven't had any luck finding anyone else with the same troubles. So I'm piggybacking on your thread.
I get weird text in the game, stuff like TXT_MENU_OPTIONS_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.
Not on all menu and text balloons, but enough that it's really irritating. It also got worse with the install of 152 patch.

I have a japanese vaio laptop (japanese windows),
2.8ghz pentium 4
1280mb ram
nvidia geforce go5600 w/64mb ram (nvharddisk with 1.1 pixel shaders finally made the game playable- thanks!)

Any help is appreciated.

I tried it again and changed the graphics settings from high to medium and it has been ok so far. Havent finished the game yet but had no problems so far

Hi, this is a known problem; the gametext_misc1.xml uses non-ascii characters which get parsed incorrectly on non-western windows versions.

Replace your file with the one found here:

Hey Inu-yasha, thanks for the help. I replaced the file, and lo and behold, I can read all the text again!

At any rate, thanks for the answer, you made my day!:)
