Question:

How can I setup BTS to have BetterAI as my "main" game and the default, official game as a mod?

My reason for doing this is because when playing single-player I don't want to have to always load the BetterAI mod, BUT I also want to be able to go back to the default every now and then when I play multiplayer.

Also, another reason for doing this is because I've been having problems playing friends using BetterAI. I told them to install it (and from what I've been told, they did it correctly), but they said when they try to play each other they get sync errors or something. I didn't get to try it myself because they already uninstalled the mod.

Why would that occur? I thought BetterAI is multiplayer compatible; as long as everyone has the same version of the mod.

easy:

"E:\Spiele\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod= Better BTS AI

for example ;)

In multiplayer, nobody may use AI Autoplay (will cause OOS immediately).

Thank you for the reply, Cybah. :)

Though, I need a bit more information.

What you provided is the shortcut I would use to execute the BetterAI mod; correct?

That actually would be a good alternative to what I proposed. I just want to avoid loading the default game, then having to click on the mod I want to use, then waiting again while the game resets and the mod loads. If I can just create a desktop shortcut directly to the mod, that would work great.

So, instead of what I was going to do initially, I guess I'll keep the default game as-is and I'll load BetterAI as a mod. Then I'll just create a 2nd shortcut on my desktop to the BetterAI mod and play my single player games that way. When I want to play multiplayer or with friends, I'll use the default shortcut to play the default game. Sound good?

Also, I know certain functions with BetterAI do not work within multiplayer (like telling vassals to prepare for war) but if all players have BetterAI loaded as their default game, shouldn't it work while playing each other? Why would my friends have trouble playing each other if they loaded the mod correctly as their default game? Does it HAVE to be installed as a mod in order to use it in multiplayer?

EDIT: Also, I guess another alternative would be to just edit the "CivilizationIV.ini" file. How would I edit it to search for and load the BetterAI by default?

If anybody else could help, please feel free to chime in!
