Problems with display

I have been operating CivIII on my laptop (Windows Vista 32-bit) for a number of years with no problems. Just last week however, the font/paragraph display went to double paragraph spacing. All of the written text has changed font and with the double line spacing on the paragraphs the game is unplayable. When the diplomatic menu drops down, the last few options are below the screen and can't be activated. I had taken Microsoft Word off my computer and am using Open Office but don't know why that would affect CivIII.

Any ideas on how I can change the font/layout for CivIII?

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and a newer computer. I installed Civ3 Complete, and when I start a new game it only gave me the option to play up to seven rivals. I was playing Civ3 Complete on an older machine running Win XP, and it would allow me to play up to 15 rivals. Has anyone had this problem? If yes, were you able to fix this problem?
