Production Queue Bug

Oh, on the issue of queues... Only problem I've ever faced is that sometimes when I want to quit building one thing and switch to another, that it gets added to the queue instead of switching. but that seems to be happening due to my own errors rather than any bugs I can forsee... Not saying it's a bug, or it isn't (I'm also not running under Jaguar, but under 10.1.4) but I've yet to encounter it, and have played a couple of games into the 20th century.

Thanks for the reply, Brad.

I believe that it's a bug in the game itself. Why? Well, first off, I am using OS X version 10.1.5 and not Jaguar.

Well, I misspoke. Apparently the bug was in 10.1.x and earlier but is exacerbated by Jaguar. It typically affects modifier keys and results in them not being recognized.

I maintain that it is an OSX bug, as it still happens to you when you quit and relaunch the game or do a soft restart. When OSX launches an app, it is given a clean memory space, so any lingering cruft from a previous running of Civ3 is gone. A soft restart of your Mac doesn't reset the USB controllers to their power-off state, and quitting and relaunching Civ3 doesn't even reset OSX. I also suspect that you won't ever encounter the issue in OS9.

Of course, if someone comes up with a means of reproducing this or any bug 100%, I'll gladly look into it.

I still get the occasional screen-freeze with diplomacy. I re-start and everything is fine from the latest auto-save. I'm wondering if that might be an OS X-thing. [I'm on 10.1.5.].

Txcurce: I think we all have our own idea of how a war should be conducted. All I know is, if I want to change the order of a queue then I should be able to change the order of that queue. If it is a feature of the game then I want to be able to use that feature or know the reason why not.

Brad: If you're saying that it's an OS X thing then why is it that the bug shows up at different intervals? In the game I am playing now, it only showed up in the year 1710 and it's now about 1920 and I've only seen the bug, maybe, 3 times since? If it was an OS X bug then should it not show up earlier?

Btw, is there any way of resetting the USB controllers to their power-off state without having to restart the machine? I'd like to try that to see whether or not that is the issue.

Grey: I don't think you've encountered the bug yet. I think I've made the same mistake that you have.

Sid: I've had that happen to me in the Diplomacy screen. It was in my earlier games and would only happen with the Greeks for those times that it froze up. The other ones were fine and when I restarted from the auto-save it seems to clear it up.

Now, Diplomacy screen problems... I had them a while back when I was playing someone else's edited scenario. Everytime I met with the greeks in 1700BC, my computer would freeze, it didn't matter how far back I went in my save files, as soon as 1700BC hit and the Greeks tried to talk to me, the game would freeze. I ended up not playing that scenario ever again

Only other "bug" I found was also with playing a custom made scenario... the files for a custom unit weren't on my hard drive, and thus, I ended up with Civ 3 crashing when the greeks tried to build this special unit.

IronMac, I suggest you do a few things to combat this bug:

1) Reinstall Civ3, while in OS X.

2) Update Civ to v1.21f (I think that's the previous version no.), and NOT v1.21g - I'm running with this version, and have NOT encountered this bug either in X 10.1.5 or 10.2.x. If you can't download it from anywhere, ask me, and I'll upload it to my web site (can't email it, too big), and a link to it.

3) Update your OS to 10.1.5.

So, MajorFallout, does this mean that you have encountered this bug also?

I have yet to install the program because I am currently playing a new game at about 15 minutes a day on average(am studying and so that takes priority). I think I am past the 1700s already and still no sign of the bug.

My OS is up to 10.1.5 and I may eventually update to 10.2.4 when it comes out soon.
