Of course a very fast tech pace would be likely on a pangea/continents map, but you have to survive the game. I think that's the main issue with a pangea map on SID.

Indeed. In both games, just blockading a few tiles of my coast line was effective because the AI cannot invade overseas. However with pangaea, you seriously have to worry about irritating someone, rather than just picking strategic fights to toy with them.
 
RoPs might help to keep those least aggressive Sid AIs at bay. I had some pangea Sid SS games going, which I basically botched one way or another... they're in my HoF thread. Right, and the main difference is that she was playing on a Tiny map. Still, I suppose it's a similar concept.
 
I suspect that was, at least partly, a conquest game. She killed 2 civs along the way.

I'd guess that any sid pangea game would be a conquest game, actually. It would almost have to be.
