Question about "Deity Mode"

Are the combat odds changed in "Deity" mode?

Playing Civ 3 vanilla.

Attempted two early wars, got whooped in both of them. Lost more than half of my units, where normally I expect to lose 10-20%.

Was this bad luck with the pRNG, or are combat odds different in Deity mode?

If the odds are different, does anyone have the hard data on what changes?

Bad luck. The level has no impact on the combat, other than you will face more units and better ones that lower levels.
