Question about friendly aliens

I have never been able to get the aliens to "friendly" status. I've had nests within my borders for quite some time and nothing happens. Was this mechanic changed with the patch? What am I missing...?

It takes quite a while for the aliens to turn blue. I think I remember someone saying 60 turns. But they turn blue. However if you kill aliens or walk into nests in the mean time you will delay teh process.

I became friend with them after the patch.

Hmm. I thought I had waited 60 turns, though I may have attacked some of the aliens. It's tough to get those nests since if you get within two tiles they start attacking you.

The only friendly alien is a dead alien!

Maybe an automated worker or another unit on goto-mission trashed one of the nests just passing by....

Previous aggression against aliens (by you) or even ongoing one by other players might slow down the progress.
