Question about performance

i have 256 ram and a 600 mhz processor, if i add 128 ram how much of a diffrence will i see in the game?

The game will load faster, especially with large and huge maps. Also, the time for the AI to take its turns will be much faster.

I would not agree with the AI turns going faster. That is more of a CPU thing than memory.

I have an 800Mhz with 256MB memory, when I went to 384MB the games did load a bit faster and the intro movies ran smoother. When I went from 384MB to 512MB the change wasn't as noticable, I think it is a bit faster, but not as noticable as going 256MB to 384MB.

I went from a 450 MHz with 64 MB to a 2.7 GHz with 512 Mb and it plays it MUCH faster.

Which OS? Chances are it won't make much of a difference on anything older than Win2000/XP. Neither '98 and ME can really handle more then 256MB well.

I think you have too much RAM and too little mhz. I have 2000mhz and 256RAM and it works good (Win98).

98 will handle up to 512MB. I am running 98SE and it did make a difference increasing from 256MB (again 800MHZ)

I didn't say it won't, I'd said little difference.

To be more correct, you'll get a decent performance increase up to 384MB, after that performance will either stagnate or might even go back down a littlle.

it should make a difference on the bigger maps with lots of civs. a change worth making.
