Landmark terrain allows you to set a different value for a terrain of the same type. i.e., say you wanted an Amazon Rainforest that gave 2 shields, and 0 food. You could edit the LM terrain, and use landmark jungle as the Amazon Rainforest. Too bad you can only have 1 type though... although, you could change the graphics of others and fake it.

LM gfx is much easier to make for mountains, hills and forests than for the underlying terrains...
I would go so far as to say doing it for base terrains is a royal pain because of the fact that there are no "grass" tiles in the files but rather transitions between tile types.
