This goes out to any Firaxians who may be hanging around the forum.
I just recently saw a screenshot which has got me very nervous indeed.
It shows some cities next to a hill, and in that hill are some 'black rocks' which look awfully like coal-even though this is clearly an ancient-middle ages screen?!?!? Now, I am aware that this screen may just be in 'debug' mode, but I was hoping that you would put these lingering fears to rest by telling us whether or not strategic resources, at least , are hidden from a player/AI until such time as they discover a prerequisite tech? In fact, perhaps you could go further and tell us under what circumstances a human or AI civ can actually see what resources are where. I look forward, with great anticipation, to a reply :)!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

probably a debug screenie like you said. wouldnt make sense otherwise, unless they used the new tech tree mechanism to get to steampower in middle ages?

Ow God, you're nervous? LOL
Or maybe you think you're a baby or something?

Seriously, I think that's obviously a debug mode, as for a time, making not so would not be logical in any way.
Though, quid of the AI being able to locate ressources before the tech pre-requisite as in Civ3?

What else could it be ... the interface is also gone, while I wouldn't even play it without an interface :p

Well the tech tree isnt divided into "Ages" anymore. But still, Id guess it was a debug mode screenie aswell.

Yep, seems like debug... no fog of war, no interface and all resources. Definitely not a normal game. ;)

Actually, it is a normal game. You're just seeing things through the eyes of the AI. ;)

Ages never revealed resources- techs did... didn't you play civ3??

I meant how there was coal in a screenshot at the same time as the cities looked medieval.

And in Civ3 the cities updated there look when you got to a specific age. Maybe in Civ4 they update in a different way.

The missing interface doesn't mean anything. i'm pretty sure you could play with it hidden in Civ 3 in otherwise normal mode.
<ctrl>-del is the key combination to remove the interface. Handy when moving near the bottom or top of the world.
