Will you be able to pre-target ICBM's in Civ III like in CTP 2. I think it made it more realistic and reduced the chances of a nuclear war.
 
Here's how I understand the new method of nuclear war. You will have two types of nukes: smaller tactical nukes stored in subs and airbases (just like the ones we have now)and massive ICBMs which can hit any target on the map. You can use tactical nukes just like we always have, however, ICBMs will work differently.

When you build an ICBM you choose a target for it. It then stays in your city untill you tell it to launch. When you launch an ICBM it will take two turns for it to fall on the enemy city, giving them the chance to send up their ICBMs.

During the two turns, is the ICBM vulnerable to interceptor missiles or fighters, cruise missiles, etc.? They should divide the "tactical nukes" up more, i.e. SLBM, ALBM, WWII A-bombs, etc. Also, Blue Monday, I think I've seen M.A.D. somewhere... C&C Red Alert?

No, once the ICBMs are launched there is no way to stop them except by SDI (However, I don't know if that's even going to be in the game). ICBMs spend most of their time in outer space, so aircraft and other missiles can't hit them.

I can't wait to go try this one out. "Nuclear Launch Detected; launch counterstrike? Y/N"

I think that instead of "Egyptians have launched nuclear weapons at your cities/units. Do you want to launch you're pretargeted missiles at the Egyptians?" or something like that, there should be a great deal of mystery in it. In real life, satellites look for missile launches on the ground, but how do you know where they're going until it's too late? My version of the message would be, "ICBM's launched!!! [here, the view zooms over the area of the launch] Possible targets according to ballistic reports are: Americans, Aztecs, British. Launch pre-targetted ICBM's toward another civilization? [dialog box: yes/no, if yes, list of civs pop up]" It may be a bit long, but it isn't it a bit fitting for something of that magnitude?

SDI is one of the small Wonders in Civ3.
 
The way I think this should work is very similar but it would not have to take 2 turns.

Instead, the ICBMs you have targeted towards an enemy would launch AUTOMATICALLY if that country launches at you or one of your allies.

This would enable then to happen within the same turn year which would be realistic. Just my 2¢. BlueMonday and ThunderFall if you guys know where there is information on how this will be done in Civilization III I would sure appreciate a link.

Well SLMB ALMB MMRB IMRB are all really the same missile with differnt modifications for there launching platform. So they should be grouped as one. The A-bomb came before advaced rocketry so it should be a prereq for modern missile. For example; with Nuclear Fission you get the a-bomb, then with guidance chips(or what have you) you get ballistic missiles.

M.A.D. thats been around since the cold war...you could have heard that anywhere. Even history class.
