As I believe I have now won the position of Trade advisor, I have a question about viewing the savefile (NOT PLAYING IT)

I own PTW, will I have to use the original Civ3.exe when viewing the save file? Have their been trade related fixes in the patches and installs since 1.29 civ3? The only reason I ask is that its s serious pain changin discs when I want to play my save-files after I view the fanatikan save.

No, you can use PTW to view Civ3 vanilla files. I've been doing it for some time now. PTW will recognize the file as vanilla, and the game parameters will be the same as that of vanilla Civ (IE no medival infantry, guerillas, etc.)

I would, though, refrain from actually playing the game as Designated player.

Octavian: Hmm... are you sure that that's not simply due to the fact that these units, etc would not be present in the .bic file from which the original game was generated. If that were the case then the AI still could (and would) react differently... :hmm:

No, don't use PTW. Trade deals WILL BE different. I've tried it. When we were buying Free Artistry, France wanted lots of gold for it in Vanilla Civ3, but a mesely WM and a lux I think in PTW, since the cooresponding wonder had already been built.

Tips from the former trade leader:

1 - Always negotiate on both sides of the table. See what the AI will take for our stuff, and see what they'll give for ours. Also, don't listen to the AI when it says "we don't see how it can be done...". Some times, you'll see a new trade deal (the AI bluffs occasionally)

2 - Always check to see when deals can be renegotiated. If the civ has over 100g (my limit), consider it 90% safe to renegotiate.

3 - Try to go for gpt, but at times, we'll need the cash upfront

4 - go for the most expensive deals first.

5 - Try tossing WMs, luxs, even resources (only in extreme cases, like Russia) to lower the cost. You may have to check multiple civs to see if you can give one lux to a civ, and get it from another (i.e., like the frenzied tech trading earlier).

Chieftess is correct. Certain data is stored differently in PTW compared to vanilla Civ3. I first noticed it when logging the cities in the city registry. The founding dates made no sense when viewed in PTW.

If all you want to do is look at the map (I can't imagine why, when the Cartographic Office puts out such beautiful maps ;)), then feel free to use PTW, but if you want to research any other data (ie. Trade Deals, potential alliances, etc...) you should probably use vanilla Civ3.

I'll go one further than our temporising President and say that you should definitely use Civ3 v1.29f, since that way you can be certain that the deals that you're researching will be possible at the TC ;)

Well I definitely dont want to screw up my first elected position in this Second Demogame, Im going to play it safe and use CivIII vanilla patch 1.29!
